Cottesbrook Hall

Former winners of the Historic Houses and Christies Garden of the Year Award, the gardens continue to be developed.

Wander around the South Lawn and Forecourt with its massive yews and statues. Wonderful views to Brixworth Church.

The Statue Walk has herbaceous borders on one side and on the opposite side of the grass path, statues of four Classical figures, probably by Peter Scheemakers. These were brought from The Temple of Ancient Virtue at Stowe in 1938.

Enjoy the Pool Garden with its summerhouse, pool and roses before heading to The Pine Court and Dutch Garden. From here, go up the steps to The Terrace border.

Straight on leads to the Reflecting Pool and Philosopher’s Garden – a magical space. To the right, under the Weeping Beech is the Secret Garden.

Don’t miss the Wild Garden either side of a small stream. Planted with Camassia, the path leads to the Wendy House with its cottage garden plants outside.

The gardens are only open for a couple of afternoons a week from May until September – check the website for details.

Historic Houses and RHS members can visit the garden for free during the season.
