Crawick Multiverse
Hidden in the hills of Upper Nithsdale is the remarkable Crawick Multiverse. It was created by the land artist, cultural theorist and landscape designer, Charles Jencks (1939-2019).
The huge landforms have been made primarily from materials found on site and depict some of the wonders of our universe. Jencks described how Crawick Multiverse was ‘one of the greatest pleasures of my life…the cosmic landscape.’
Covering 55 acres, there are various paths through this spectacular landscape. Each landform represents cosmological or astronomical features and theories.
Take the Comet Walk along the ridge to the highest point of the site, the Belvedere, where there are magnificent views over the Nith valley and beyond.
The Low Road is a more gentle route with various paths to choose from.
Look out for the Supercluster, Andromeda and the Milky Way, Omphalos and the Sun Amphitheatre.
The site is sometimes closed so check the website before visiting.
