Franciscan Gardens Canterbury
Escape the bustle of Canterbury city centre and relax in the recently replanted Franciscan Gardens. Inspired by the site’s original use as a Franciscan Friary, discover a hidden gem of symbolic planting, peaceful paths and the beautiful Greyfriars Chapel.
The Franciscan’s connection and respect for nature runs throughout these gardens and continues today as the garden is still run on organic principles.
Walk in the footsteps of the first Franciscans in England and enjoy this place of contemplation and tranquility beside the burbling Great Stour river.
The gardens are open 7 days a week from 10.00am until 4.30pm except for the months of December and January when the gardens are closed.
Entry to Greyfriars Chapel is included in the ticket price.
There is no cafe, on-site parking or toilets but people are welcome to bring their own picnic/refreshments.
There is limited wheelchair access – please call in advance to check suitability.
