Renishaw Hall

There’s plenty to explore in the award-winning Italianate gardens including herbaceous borders, fountains, ornamental ponds and a collection of hardy and exotic plants.

The gardens are divided into different areas with wonderfully curious names – for example, the First Candle Garden, the Ballroom and the Half Moon Garden.

The Orangery houses the National Collection Yuccas.

Meander through the woods to the lakes and the Gothic archway and a classical temple to Diana.

The house is now lived in by Alexandra Sitwell, the great-granddaughter of Sir George Sitwell, and her husband Rick Hayward and their family.

In 2015, Renishaw was the Winner of the Garden of the Year Award from Historic Houses and Christies.

The gardens are usually open from Wednesday until Sunday during the Spring, Summer and Autumn but check the website before visiting.

Guided Tours of the house are on Fridays but to avoid any disappointment, book in advance.

Historic Houses members and RHS members visit for free.
