Rufford Abbey Country Park

Explore the formal gardens and don’t miss the Queen Mother’s Walk.

As you wander around the garden, you can see the remains of the 18th century canal and waterworks as well as various modern sculptures.

Now a shop, discover the Orangery and peer over the balustrade to see the original cold bath.

If you take the walkway from near the Orangery, there are a series of ponds on your right. These are likely to have been the stew ponds dating from when the Abbey was a Cistercian monastery.

Most of the original building at Rufford has been demolished but the abbey undercroft is still visible along with the Jacobean wing. These are currently not open to the public.

There is a walk around the lake to Rufford Mill – it takes about 20 minutes.

There is a large playground.

The grounds are free to enter although there is a car parking charge.

Open all year round.
