Scampston Hall and Walled Garden
Fabulous Walled Garden with surrounding Park designed by ‘Capability’ Brown.
Pick up a copy of the excellent map from the Ticket Office. It describes the different rooms in the Walled Garden as well as the two routes around the Park – the Cascade Trail and the Aviaries Trail.
The Walled Garden is set within the 18th century walls of the original kitchen garden. Designed by Piet Oudolf, it was opened to the public in 2005 and is an outstanding example of his work with perennial meadow planting alongside more traditional areas.
The surrounding Park with its series of Lakes, Palladian Bridge and Cascade was designed by ‘Capability’ Brown.
Don’t miss the door on the side of the Palladian Bridge. Usually locked, it leads to a Plunge Pool where ladies could discreetly bathe.
The Walled Garden is flat with good access for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Dogs are allowed in some areas of the Park.
