Sissinghurst Castle Garden
With the Elizabethan Tower as backdrop, the romantic gardens are divided into a series of rooms. They were created by the diplomat Harold Nicolson and his wife Vita Sackville-West, poet, author and gardener.
The White Garden is filled with white plants including roses, gladioli, iris, dahlias and Japanese anemones.
The South Cottage Cottage is predominantly red and gold. Against the wall grows the rose Mme Alfred Carriere, the first plant that Vita and Harold grew at Sissinghurst.
Delos was inspired by Vita and Harold’s visit to the Greek Island. Although their vision was never completed, the National Trust with advice from Dan Pearson have redesigned this space.
Other areas include the Rose Garden, the Herb Garden, the Nuttery, the Orchard and the Lime Walk.
Don’t miss the Elizabethan Tower. Discover Vita’s Writing Room and climb to the top of the Tower to enjoy spectacular views over the garden.
National Trust members visit for free.
