Sledmere House and Garden
The beautiful 18th century Walled Garden was recently filmed by BBC Gardeners World. Divided into a series of individual rooms including the Angel Garden, the Potager and the Lark Ascending garden which contains 12,000 spring bulbs.
Don’t miss the Reflection Garden with its central pool surrounded by vibrant reds, oranges and purples.
Many of the gardens have been developed by Andrew Karavics, head gardener. Introducing a more naturalistic form of planting, he explains the gardens are ‘all based on pieces of music or songs. You take the emotions of the song and it creates your garden – which I know sounds a bit random but it does work.’
Today the estate is owned by Sir Tatton Sykes, 8th Baronet.
Don’t miss the Turkish Room on the ground floor, decorated with blue and green tiles.
There’s a Rare Breed Conservation Farm Park and Wagoners’ Museum.
